The full name of GMS is Google Mobile Service. Google GMS service is the core of Android smart devices, which can also be said to be the central nerve of the whole intelligent system. Many applications are developed based on this service. Examples include Google Search, Gmail, Google Talk, Street Vie, Google Play, and Google+.

For manufacturers, only through Google GMS certification to obtain Google authorization for these services, a mobile phone without Google GMS is basically equivalent to a feature phone, the elderly phone. The GMS suite, the soul of Android, is still firmly in Google's hands. You can ship your phone overseas without GMS, but that often doesn't sell because most overseas buyers will ask for GMS.

Currently, GMS certification has entered the mandatory stage. According to Google's previous deployment, GMS certification will be mandatory from Q3 2017, otherwise it will not be used at all. The following points can be noted:

Classification of Google Certification: Google certification can be classified as GMS certification

And AER certification (enterprise equipment certification), the screen size below 18 inches can use MADA protocol for GMS certification, more than 18 inches must use EDLA protocol for certification, EDLA protocol is only open to two or three large factories in the world, so very few can do EDLA protocol certification.

Google GMS Certification Region: The world is divided into 4 regional versions, namely Europe, Turkey, Russia, other regions (Asia and America belong to the other regions)

(1) Main purposes of GMS certification:

Improve the compatibility and stability of the Android system;

Authorize the use of Google mobile apps and services;

Authorized use of Android LOGO;

Products can be entered into the European and American hypermarkets.

(2) Requirements for GMS certification:

The product must be able to pass the CTS Test Suite, which is a collection of.apK programs for testing;

The product must pass CTS Verify test;

The product must be able to pass GTS tests, GTS tests (Google Mobile Services Test Suite, GMS Suite tests), an automated test suite for testing GMS applications;

Products must use Android version 8.0 or above to be certified;

Products have the obligation to pass CE, FCC, BT, WIFI and other hardware certification. (Non-mandatory index)

(3) GMS certification process:

Apply for Google MADA Agreement;

Software and hardware testing of products;

Submit test report to Google for review;

Get Google Authentication and authorization.

Fill out the application form and check the CDD

Prepare 10 prototypes.

(5) Application cycle for GMS certification:

The average duration of GMS certification in the laboratory is 6 to 8 weeks. If the customer's product modification is delayed, the cycle needs to be postponed.

(6) Cooperation process with the laboratory

1. Both parties sign the contract.

2. Your company will provide the prototype and application form.

3. Your company will arrange payment.

4. The laboratory will conduct CTS, CTS verify, GTS and other tests.

5. Submit the test report to Google for review.

6. Pass Google GMS certification and obtain Google related service authorization

(7) What else do you need to do after completing Google certification

After the completion of Google certification, the version needs to be upgraded within the validity period, and the patch needs to be maintained every quarter. AER products must be upgraded once within 18 months and twice within 5 years

(8) What is the current version of Google GMS certification

At present, only the version of Android 11 is accepted for certification, and those lower than this version cannot apply for certification, and Google basically updates the version every year, that is to say, this year's version 11, next year's version 12 for certification.

Google Certified categories:

Google certification includes GMS certification, AER certification (enterprise level device certification) and EDLA protocol certification, among which EDLA is a new certification requirements recently launched by Google.

EDLA protocol

EDLA is Enterprise Device Licensing Agreeement. The EDLA agreement is a recent agreement by Google, which can be understood as a supplement to the MADA agreement. The device can be battery free, and the screen size can be up to 70 inches. Or if the screen size is over 18 inches, you must use the EDLA protocol. This type of product is qualified for GMS test only after completing EDLA certification.

3. The region to be shipped and the estimated quantity of the first batch of shipped products

EDLA Certification process:

1. Certified products shall meet the requirements of GMS-CDD certification

2. You need to fill in the certification application form

3. We should first apply for the authorization of EDLA agreement

4. After the EDLA authorization is obtained, the prototype required for authentication can be prepared by 1 or 2 more prototypes

5. The testing institution shall conduct pre-test according to the corresponding test case

6. After passing the pre-test, send it to 3PL laboratory for formal test

7. Complete certification after passing formal laboratory tests

EDLA Certification cycle:

The certification cycle of EDLA is a little longer than that of MADA, which generally takes about 6-8 weeks to complete the certification.
