Google continues to push updates for Android Auto, in addition to the previous Gemini and media app updates, let's take a look at what's coming next.
1. Light themes
Since the launch of Android Auto in 2023, Google has been developing a light-colored theme for the platform. The new design is expected to roll out alongside the existing dark mode, covering both the home screen and various apps. Recent preview versions manually enabled suggest this light theme is ready for official release soon. While some have dubbed it "Material-style redesign" for Android Auto, this characterization isn't entirely accurate. Google had already introduced the limited Material You theme last year, and the new light theme primarily enhances interface readability. Although Google officially showcased the Light theme at the I/O conference, no specific release date has been announced. However, code from Android Auto 14.7 reveals settings for switching between these two themes, though they remain unavailable for public use.
2. Climate control
Another feature Google is working on —— supports climate control. Google has spent months building this feature, and recently users can manually enable the button to view the effect of climate control.
3. Map Alert control
In a recent beta, Android Auto laid the groundwork for controlling "Alerts" from maps. This appears to be related to Google Maps' event reporting feature, which has been a nuisance for some people more than help.
