1. Overview of GSO
GSO (Gulf Cooperation Council Standardization Organization) is an organization responsible for coordinating and developing standardization and conformity assessment procedures for GCC member states (including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates). The goals of GSO are to promote trade among member countries, ensure the quality, safety and performance of products and services, and protect consumers and the environment. The GSO achieves these goals by issuing technical regulations and standards that are binding on all member states.
2. Overview of DAB+ technology
DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus) is a digital audio broadcasting technology, which is an upgraded version of DAB. DAB+ technology is famous for its efficient and high-quality audio transmission, which can provide sound quality close to CD level and has the characteristics of anti-noise, anti-interference, and anti-wave propagation fading.
3. GSO’s regulatory requirements for the application of DAB+ technology in the automotive field
1) UAE: All vehicles should be provided with AM/FM/T-DAB+ according to UAE.S 5021:2018:Terrestrial Radio Receiver Specifications.
2) Bahrain: if the vehicle is provided with AM/FM/T-DAB+, it should comply with GSO 2693:2022: The GCC Terrestrial Radio Receiver Specifications for AM/FM/T-DAB+.
3) Saudi Arabia: All vehicles should be provided with AM/FM/T-DAB+3 according to SASO 2938:2019: Technical specifications of the radio, digital and analog broadcasting receiver for(AM/FM/T- DAB+).
4) Kuwait: All vehicles should be provided with AM/FM/T-DAB+ according to GSO 2693:2022: The GCC Terrestrial Radio Receiver Specifications for AM/FM/T-DAB+.
5) Other countries: AM / FM / T-DAB + is not required for countries other than GCC.
4. Comply with national regulations of member states
1) The manufacturer should declare the following in the GSO certificate of conformity (additional information item): "When exporting to these countries, the national regulations of the member states mentioned in the attachment to the 2024 vehicle technical regulations list should also be complied with."
2) Recall activities: All car manufacturers upload the details of all recalls in the Mutabiq system, which is a requirement for car recalls in GCC member states.
3) Warranty agreement: GSO emphasizes that all vehicles sold in GCC countries, regardless of the importer, should apply for a warranty agreement.
