In our last post, we introduced you to Google's new concept of "Android for Cars" in the automotive electronics ecosystem. We learned that Google certification is not only for Android Auto. Android runs on many form factors, from phones to TVs to cars, and certification programs vary. Today, we will tell you about these Android device certification programs.
1. Android for Cars
2. Android Carriers
3. Android Security
4. Android Things
5. Android TV
6. Direct Carrier Billing (DCB)
7. Google Mobile Services (GMS)
8. Wear OS by Google
1.Android for Cars
Android for Cars has been covered in a previous article. If you are interested, check out "What do you know about Google's automotive ecosystem besides Android Auto?"
2. Android Carriers
While the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) provides common, device-level functionalities, Google Mobile Services (GMS) is a collection of proprietary Google apps and APIs that support enhanced functionality across devices. Apps such as Google Search, Google Play, YouTube, Gmail, and more work together seamlessly to ensure Android provides a great user experience.
3.Android Security
The Android Partners Security help center contains non-public security information for Android partners. Content includes:
l Bulletins. Android Partner Security Bulletins are released at the beginning of each month, with each partner bulletin becoming a public bulletin the following month. A bulletin contains an overview of security issues, resolution details, and downloads such as patch files and test cases.
l Advisories. Android Partner Security Advisories supplement the Android Partner Security Bulletins by addressing issues that might not require security patches or device updates, but could still affect overall security.
4. Android Things
The Android Things partner documentation site has been removed as of March 1, 2021.
5.Android TV
The Android TV help center contains details on creating Android TV devices, which can be traditional panel televisions, set-top boxes (STB), or over-the-top content (OTT) devices. The help center includes information on designing, developing, testing, launching, and maintaining Android TV implementations. Content includes Android TV requirements documentation, how-to guides, and resource downloads.
Android TV is copyrighted by Google and given to Google TV Services (GTVS) licensees for devices integrating GTVS.
6. Direct Carrier Billing
Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) is a payments solution that allows users to charge Google Play apps and content directly to their phone or TV provider. For users, DCB is a simple payment method; for operators, DCB is an extra revenue stream. DCB is supported for Android mobile devices and Android TV:
l On mobile devices, Google Play charges appear on the user's phone bill.
l On Android TV, Google Play charges appear on the user's Pay TV bill.
7.Google Mobile Services (GMS)
While the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) provides common, device-level functionalities, Google Mobile Services (GMS) is a collection of proprietary Google apps and APIs that support enhanced functionality across devices. Apps such as Google Search, Google Play, YouTube, Gmail, and more work together seamlessly to ensure Android provides a great user experience.
8.Wear OS by Google

Wear OS by Google is a platform for wearable computer devices. Partners can leverage platform software (a modular form of Android) to develop wearable devices for the Android ecosystem. Wear OS by Google is designed to provide contextually aware and relevant information to the user and facilitate micro-interactions (0-10 seconds) between user and device, allowing the user to be more present and engaged with their surroundings. Currently the focus is on wrist-based wearables with color displays, with plans to support additional form factors and displays over time.
For the above Android device certification project, if you want to do relevant certification, the first key is naturally to become a Google partner of the relevant project, so that you can be qualified to obtain relevant development resources and test certification resources.
