ASPICE, whose full name is "Automotive Software Process Improvement and Capacity dEtermination", is a model framework used to evaluate the R&D ability level of software development teams in the automotive industry.

Originally developed by more than 20 major European car manufacturers, it was launched in 2005 to improve the quality of on-board software by guiding the software development process for auto parts manufacturers.

Over the years, ASPICE has been widely used in the European automotive industry to improve R&D processes and evaluate suppliers' R&D capabilities.

With the rapid development of Internet of vehicles, intelligent driving and new energy vehicles in recent years, the proportion of software in automobile research and development has soared, and enterprises' demand for software quality management has been continuously enhanced. ASPICE has been gradually introduced into China and is well known by domestic enterprises. On the other hand, with the revision of TS16949, the enterprises put forward the requirement of regular audit, but also the application of ASPICE in the domestic play a great role in promoting.

ASPICE divides the automotive system development process into 32 processes and classifies these 32 processes into 3 categories and 8 process groups.

There are 17 processes recommended as focus processes, called VDA Scope (formerly HIS Scope), and most audits choose to review these 17 processes.
