WEEE registration guide
Release Time:2025-08-13 18:21Views:

WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) is the European Union's Directive on the Recycling of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. Simply put, under this directive, manufacturers of electrical and electronic products must be responsible for the entire lifecycle of their products, including recycling and disposal after they are scrapped.

1. Which countries need to carry out WEEE certification?

Germany, Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, Portugal, Poland, Belgium, Finland, Luxembourg, Austria, Ireland and so on.

However, WEEE certification is not mandatory. Currently, Amazon has a policy of forcing the closure of companies selling cross-border e-commerce products. Products without WEEE registration codes will be forced to be removed from shelves. Among all European countries, Germany has the most stringent environmental requirements.

2. Scope of application of WEEE certification

The WEEE Directive applies to the following electrical and electronic products:

Large household appliances, small household appliances, information technology and remote communication equipment, user equipment, lighting equipment, electrical and electronic tools (except large static industrial tools), toys, leisure and sports equipment, medical equipment (except all implanted and infected products), monitoring and control equipment, vending machines.

4.  certificate of authorization 。

4. The WEEE registration process is as follows:

1. The applicant shall fill in the registration application form and provide the materials;

2. Signing the contract;

3. Sign the contract and pay;

4. Submit registration and authorize letter;

5. The applicant signs and seals the letter of authorization for EAR audit;

6. After EAR audit, WEEE code will be issued, the certificate will be issued, and it will be put into the German electronic recycling computer query system.

5、How to determine whether it is necessary to register for WEEE in Germany?

According to the German Directive on Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment, if you meet at least one of the following conditions

That is, they are considered as producers and need to register with WEEE in Germany:

1. The manufacturer, i.e. the entity that manufactures goods in Germany subject to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive and sells them under its own trademark name or brand;

2. Brand holders, i.e., those who sell or commercially resell goods from other manufacturers that are subject to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive under their own trademark names or brands in Germany. In such cases, the manufacturer is not considered a producer because your trademark name or brand is displayed on the electrical and electronic equipment;

3. First importer: For commercial purposes, you sell for the first time in the German market goods not originating in Germany that are subject to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive. This includes importing goods subject to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive from overseas into Germany;

4. Online platform sellers sell goods directly to end users in Germany through online sales, subject to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive, but your company is not in Germany.
